Some Dos and Don'ts to help keep your new board in tip-top shape

DO:
- USE IT! We have heard it far too often from our customers that their Timbers Sawdust board is so beautiful that they couldn't possibly use it. Don't be afraid of ruining it! Give it character, create memories, and enjoy the experience so your board can tell a lifetime of stories.
- Use lukewarm water and a mild dish soap to clean it.
- Keep your board from excessively drying out by regularly applying Timbers Sawdust Board Butter to a clean, dry board. Optionally, you can also use a blend of food-safe mineral oil and pure beeswax.
- Use Timbers Sawdust Board Butter for best results when your board needs a little refresher.
- Put a board in the DISHWASHER! This will likely cause catastrophic damage.
- Submerge or otherwise soak a board in water!
- Expose often to acidic foods, as these have a tendency to rather quickly strip away the waxy protective finish.
Follow these steps for quick and easy board maintenance
- Hand wash the board with mild dish soap and warm water.
- Towel dry and set the board aside to allow it to fully air dry.
- Once the board is completely dry, apply a moderate amount of Timbers Sawdust Board Butter and allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes. Overnight is ideal.
- Here's where the magic happens... Let the board soak up as much of the Board Butter as possible. Once the wood fibers are saturated, some areas may have the Board Butter still on the surface while the drier areas may have absorbed it all.
- If the entire board soaked it all in, then repeat Step 3. It was thirsty.
- Take a clean lint-free cloth or high-quality paper towel and rub the remaining finish all over the board surface, effectively giving it a light buff. This will leave the board moisturized, protected, smelling good, and ready for future use.
- If you used bare hands while refreshing your board, then know that Timbers Sawdust Board Butter is made of the highest quality food-safe ingredients and will provide your skin with the same nourishing moisturizer! Yikes! You're here because of extreme damage?
If you think your board might be destined for the dumpster due to a big drop or a long soak (or any other extreme accident), try not to panic!
We know you put forth a bit of an investment into your board, and we want to help you get every last bit of use out of it.
Luckily for you, we know woodworking.
Once the initial shock of it wears off, give us a call or shoot us an email and we can help determine if there's a way to save it. If we determine it can be salvaged, you can ship us the board at your expense, and we will repair/restore it for a reasonable fee. We will gladly discuss the further details of this process on an individual case-by-case basis.
While we haven't yet had any customers require such a severe remediation, we are most likely going to be able to provide some sort of service that can bring the board back to life. After all, we did take a log and whittle it down to make that board, so the odds are pretty good that we can get it back in shape.
